The Volkswagen Transporter T7 is being prepared, but it does not completely take over from the T6. The T7 is the new passenger version, which will be launched alongside the T6.
Volkswagen has the ‘Transporter’ T7 in the starting blocks, which will be quite different from the current type. On these photos from last summer it was clearly visible that it has an almost MPV-like appearance. That was already somewhat surprising, an order version was still a bit difficult to imagine. This surprise turns out not to be entirely unjustified. “We will bring it to the market at the end of next year. Not as a successor, however, but as a supplement to the T6.1, which will remain available as a commercial vehicle,” said Volkswagens sales chief Heinz-Jürgen Löw in conversation with Auto-Media Portal. “The T7 is only offered as a Multivan. We have uncompromisingly combined the comfort and dimensions of a car with the space and variability of a van.” According to the German, the T7 is therefore purely aimed at luxury passenger transport.
ID. Buzz
A real successor to the T6 is not yet ready, but Löw says that in a way a more modern alternative is coming. The production version of the ID. According to him, Buzz, an electrically powered retro bus with T1 characteristics, will appear in 2022. It will then probably come as Cargo (orderer) and Bulli (passenger bus). Löw states that it will be quite similar to the concept versions that were shown in 2017. Presumably late after the introduction of the ID. Buzz will have to wait a while for the T6 to retire, because not necessarily everyone will be ready in 2022 for a switch to a purely electric orderer.
