Double fresh
It’s March and that means many classic cars are back on the road. Especially now that the weather is nice and sunny, although you have to take brine on the roads into account. In any case, the owner of this Volvo Amazon dares to do it again!
The month of March is only two days old and yet we already have two over-50s showing themselves in public again. First a Citroën ID from 1966, now a Volvo Amazon from 1965 appears. Jente Horsting photographed the 58-year-old Swede and we naturally thank her for sharing these photos. Coincidence or not, but recently a (albeit completely different) nice Volvo came on her path. The Amazon is a bit older than the 343, but less rare. After all, the Amazon is a particularly popular classic in our country. That does not mean that the Amazon should not also be put in the spotlight in this section, and such a four-door is quite rare for an Amazon.
This specimen can quite literally stand in the sun for a while, because the frost was on it this morning. A little frost or bad weather doesn’t make Amazons hot or cold quickly (get it?); they can take a lot. That is also one of the reasons that you still see them relatively often; they fit together well and are relatively easy to keep driving. In addition, the B18 four-cylinder, which is also in this copy, is a power source that is usually placed in an illustrious list of virtually indestructible engines. In this case we are dealing with a Volvo 122S (Amazon was not the official model name due to a legal dispute between Volvo and Kreidler) and the ‘S’ indicates that it is a sportier version, with a twin carburettor version of the 1.8.
The Amazon has a nice typical color and the black roof and the spotlights at the front give it some extra ‘face’. Of course there are also dark blue plates on it, as you would expect on an Amazon, but in this case they should not be on it officially. The car was imported into the Netherlands in 1984 and then received a new Dutch license plate (XX-00-XX). According to the letter of the law, yellow plates must be on it, but we do not expect that this will be made difficult any time soon. We do understand that the Amazon can already be found on public roads, because the current owner has only had it for just over a month and probably wants to enjoy it to the fullest right away. Have fun with it!
