Electric SUV coupé only available online
Volvo C40 Recharge
Volvo is setting a new brand course, with electric cars that are only available online. The new Volvo C40, a coupé-like SUV, is the first to be offered like this.
Volvo presents a new model, the SUV coupé C40 Recharge. That last addition tells us that this is an electric car. The newcomer is even designed directly from the drawing board, in contrast to its pure SUV brother XC40. The C40 has an electric motor on the front and rear axles, which are powered by a 78 kWh battery pack. Volvo expects to be able to achieve a (WLTP) range of 420 km. Fast charging to 80 percent should be done in 40 minutes.
Externally, the new model differs from the XC40 in the coupé-like roofline. The C40 Recharge is slimmer and lower. Yet the driver and passengers are high. The roof sloping towards the rear consists largely of glass. The nose of the Volvo V40 represents the brand’s new ‘family face’. The headlamps feature new ‘pixel’ technology.

The infotainment system was developed jointly with internet company Google. Because this is based on the Android operating system, various Google apps such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play Store are all ‘built-in’. The system can handle ‘unlimited data’, an indication for rapid processing of large amounts of data. Software updates take place ‘over the air’, you do not have to go to the garage. In the future, this could even increase the action radius.
New sales concept
With the newcomer, Volvo is also setting a new sales course. “The C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo and shows where we are going,” said technical boss Henrik Green. “It is fully electric, is only offered online with a practical service pack and can be delivered quickly.” The service pack includes, for example, warranty, maintenance, breakdown assistance, insurance and charging options. Instead of a long option list, the brand offers the model in a few attractive, pre-configured variants. More information about the Volvo C40 Recharge will follow at the showroom introduction at the end of this year.
