Volvo had a remarkably good sales month in July. The brand not only sold more cars in Europe, but also in China and in the United States sales numbers increased compared to the same month last year.
Volvo sold a total of 62,291 brand new models in July, an increase of 14.2 percent from the same month last year. The brand says it is benefiting from the more flexible corona measures and proudly reports that it has managed to sell even more cars in both Europe, the United States and China than in July 2019.
Sales in Europe increased 12.5 percent last month compared to the same month last year. The number of cars sold increased from 25,518 to 28,700. In China, the number of cars sold increased by 14 percent to 14,410. In the United States, 9,697 customers got into a new Volvo last month, 10.3 percent more than last year. However, sales – caused of course by the poor market conditions – are lagging behind those of last year. The international sales counter stands at 332,253 units for the first seven months of this year, 16 percent less than the 395,372 sold in the same period last year. The European market has been hit hard. With 151,735 Volvo cars sold in the first seven months of this year, the European sales counter is 24.1 percent behind last year. In comparison, the sales decline in China and the United States is 0.3 and 10.1 percent respectively.
The XC40 was Volvo’s international success last month, followed by the XC60 and XC90. The brand’s SUVs accounted for a whopping 72.8 percent of its sales in July. If we look at the past seven months, the XC60 sits on the sales throne. This year already 96,622 pieces were sold. The XC40 and XC90 follow in second and third place with 87,085 and 46,669 copies respectively.
