Volvo XC40 and C40 Twin Motor: significantly increased range

The Volvo XC40 and C40 changed powertrains in a special way in November. Where the non-four-wheel drive models were previously front-wheel drive, the electric Volvo XC40 and C40 switched to rear-wheel drive. In addition, they received larger battery packs and charging speeds were improved. Here you can read all about that interesting technical change. What about the all-wheel drive flavors of the XC40 and C40? They are also undergoing improvements.

The Twin Motor variants of the Volvo XC40 as C40 get new electric motors. Previously they had a 204-horsepower power source both front and rear, which gave the pair a system power of 408 hp. The system power of 408 does not change, but those powers do come from new engines. The Volvo XC40 Twin Motor and C40 Twin Motor now have a 249 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a 159 hp one on the front axle. The engine on the rear axle is the same new one as in the Single Motor variant.

Like the new Single Motor Extended Range versions, the Volvo C40 and XC40 Twin Motor get an 82 kWh battery, of which 78 kWh can be used net. Thanks to, among other things, more efficient battery cooling, the range of the Volvo XC40 Twin Engine is now 500 kilometers, no less than 62 kilometers more than before. The C40 Recharge Twin Motor will now travel 507 kilometers instead of 451 kilometers. The XC40 Twin Motor buzzes to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The C40 is even faster with 4.7 counts. The top speed of both models is 180 km/h. The C40 Recharge Twin Motor is available from €59,995. The XC40 Twin engine from €58,495.

Just the range of the other engine versions: the XC40 and C40 Single Motor are successively 460 and 470 kilometers away. The Single Motor Extended Range flavors with a larger battery kick it up to 520 and 530 kilometers respectively.
