According to rumors, Apple plans to better spread the releases of new iPhones over a calendar year. The company started this in 2025, because a new iPhone was released this year in both spring and autumn. In the spring we saw the iPhone 16e, followed by the iPhone 17 series in the fall. Apple reportedly has a different schedule in 2026, which means you may have to wait a very long time for the iPhone 18.
iPhone 18 won’t arrive until 2027
Apple reportedly plans to release the basic and entry-level iPhone models in the spring. This means that we can expect the iPhone 17e in early 2026, with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max following in the fall. The iPhone 18 is considered the basic model, which we will not see until the spring of 2027. Apple will probably release the iPhone 18e and the iPhone 18 at the same time.
Do you want to wait for the iPhone 18? In that case, you will have to be patient, because the phone will probably not be available in stores until the spring of 2027. We will only see the iPhone 17e and the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) in 2026, the cheaper iPhone 18e and iPhone 18 will only come afterwards. In this way, Apple tries to keep the sales of new iPhones the same throughout the year. The basic models will therefore be released in the spring, the Pro models will follow in September.
Alternative: the iPhone 17(e)
Apple already applies the same strategy to the iPad and the MacBook, the Pro models of these devices are also traditionally released in the autumn. Are you planning to buy a new iPhone, but do you want to wait for the iPhone 18? Then keep in mind that you won’t be able to get that phone for a while. The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max are planned for 2026, but the regular iPhone 18 will not be available until 2027.
Don’t want to wait that long for the iPhone 18? In that case, you can also choose the iPhone 17 or the iPhone 17e. The latter will appear in stores in early 2026, but will probably miss a number of important camera (functions). Do you need a new phone now?
