TED Talks
If you are not in the mood for a complete course, but you want to change your mind with an interesting speech, then the TED Talks are for you. Choose from over 2,000 inspiring stories from remarkable speakers. Search by theme or mood, learn about the latest technological and scientific developments and learn to interact with people better thanks to the presentations on human psychology. Everything is included. Afraid you don’t understand because it’s all in English? No need, because it contains subtitles in more than 100 languages. You can also save everything offline or create favorites. If you can’t choose, there are also the playlists that have been put together by the editors. You can watch via your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV or forward to a larger screen via your Chromecast or AirPlay.
edX
This app is in our list of apps for good resolutions, but even after January edX offers enough content to be busy. You will find interesting courses on robots, machine learning, China, psychology, hip hop and all kinds of other topics that might interest you. The courses are professionally created, with assignments that are fully tailored to those who want to attend distance education. For example, you can participate in a course from Harvard, Stanford or another top university. For a fee (usually around 50 euros) you can also have your efforts converted into a certificate, so that you can prove on LinkedIn and other platforms that you have passed.
The Dutch universities of Groningen, Delft and Amsterdam are also participating. The useful thing about the edX app is that you can also save the material offline and you can choose to only watch videos. You then skip the written explanation, quizzes and tests. You can discuss with other students and the teachers are often available for questions.
Khan Academy
Khan Academy is a non-profit organization that provides free lessons worldwide. You can go here for more technical lessons, such as geometry, statistics, economics, finance, grammar, history, politics and more. It contains thousands of interactive exercises, you can watch videos and read articles. Every subject will be discussed. This way you can learn remotely, even when you are an adult. Progress is synchronized with khanacademy.org so you can continue learning at any time. Everything is free. You can also prepare for exams such as SAT, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, NCLEX-RN and AP with this app.
Coursera
Coursera is similar to edX, but with other schools and institutes. If you cannot find what you are looking for at edX, then it may be at Coursera. All courses are 100% online. You can choose specializations, certificates and more from well-known universities and companies, such as Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Google, IBM and almost 200 others. In total, there are over 3,500 online courses in the app, in every area. You can stream or save the videos for offline use. Everything is synchronized, so you can continue on another device at any time. Thanks to the subtitles and interactive transcriptions, you can also follow it if you have difficulty with English. From entrepreneurship to self-driving cars, programming in Python, machine learning, statistics, creative writing and personal development to chemistry and nutrition, everything is included. A single course costs a few tens, but you can also spend € 40,000 on official training.
Duolingo
There it is again, the app for learning languages. We are a bit tired of the app ourselves, because at some point it becomes very monotonous to type in the same sentences. But it is still the app everyone calls when it comes to learning languages ​​on the iPhone. There is actually no alternative and Duolingo takes it quite nicely. In addition, the number of languages ​​has gradually expanded to more than 30 today.
Udemy
Udemy promises a whopping 130,000 video courses, all of which are available online and taught by experts. Choose from courses on programming in Python and Java, or personal development. Learn about drawing, design, writing or yoga. More than 40 million students preceded you. The topics are quite broad, but here too there is strong similarity with Coursera and edX, so just choose the platform that has what you are looking for. There are free courses between and paid. As with the other services, you can watch offline or just listen to the audio variant. You can ask questions to fellow students and the experts.
iTunes U.
In previous years we sometimes recommended iTunes U for learning something new. Apple liked to profile itself as a company that values ​​education. But lately, that focus seems to have shifted a bit. We never hear from iTunes U again and during the keynotes the platform seems to have disappeared into the background. You will still find interesting courses in the app. They are only made less professional and it is all presented a little less beautifully than what you will find on Udemy, Coursera and edX. Sometimes there is just a camera in the lecture hall and you have to watch a polar bear professor for 1.5 hours, while at the other services you see nicely rounded films with a clear structure and structure.
