watchOS 8.5.1 now available

Apple regularly provides its devices with minor software updates. In this way, users can fully enjoy their Apple devices. The Apple Watch is currently receiving an update: watchOS 8.5.1. The update comes with a number of security updates and fixes issues, hopefully including the Apple Watch Series 7 charging issue.

Since watchOS 8.5, fast charging seems to have stopped working on some Apple Watch Series 7 smartwatches. Several users have been complaining about slow-loading watches on Apple Support forums and Reddit in recent days. Apple has not explicitly said that watchOS 8.5.1 fixes the issue, but we assume it is.

How to install watchOS 8.5.1

The update is available for the Apple Watch Series 3 and newer. There are two ways to update your Apple Watch: via your iPhone and directly via the Apple Watch itself. Below you can read how to apply both methods.

Update via your iPhone

  1. Grab your paired iPhone and go to the Watch app;
  2. Go to the tab My Watch and tap General†
  3. Then tap software update and wait for the update to be downloaded;
  4. Hang your Apple Watch on the charger and wait for the update to be installed.

Keep your iPhone close to your Apple Watch or you will disrupt the update process. The update may take longer than an hour. So patience is certainly a virtue. You can only complete the installation with your Apple Watch on the charger. So keep this in mind.

Update via your Apple Watch

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch;
  2. Go to General and after that software update†
  3. Your Apple Watch will now search for the watchOS update;
  4. Tap download;
  5. Connect your Apple Watch to the charger and the installation will start automatically.
