In addition to iOS 15.6, Apple also has new software available for your Apple Watch. While watchOS 8.7 contains no new features, it is important for the stability of your watch.
This is how you install watchOS 8.7
Want to download watchOS 8.7? Make sure your Apple Watch is charged at least 50 percent. It must also be connected to the charger and within range of your iPhone. It must also be connected to a WiFi network.
Then you can actually install watchOS 8.7. This can be done via the Settings app of your Apple Watch. Under ‘General’, tap ‘Software Update’ and install the update. If ‘Automatic Updates’ is on, the update will take place at night when your clock is on the charger.
Unfortunately, the update does not contain any new features, but does include performance improvements and security patches. These are very important to keep hackers out. We therefore recommend that you install the update as soon as possible. Because the software has just been released, you may not see it immediately. Then try again in an hour.
watchOS 9 is going to be a different cake
This fall, Apple will release a much larger update for your Apple Watch: watchOS 9. You can get started with new watch faces, among other things. Apple also uses the accelerometer and gyroscope to determine how well you are walking or running. In addition, you get more insight into your sleep with ‘Sleep Stages’. A public beta of watchOS 9 is already available. This is a trial version that may contain many bugs and other nasties. We would therefore not install it on a watch that you use every day.
