The Apple Watch is getting more mature tonight. watchOS 8 will get three new, independent apps, including the mysterious Mind app.
New apps for watchOS 8 on the way
That writes MacRumors. The website was tipped off by a software developer who discovered that Apple was adding new apps to watchOS 8 in the background. These are apps with the names ‘Tips’, ‘Contacts’ and ‘Mind’.
You know the first two apps from the iPhone. Tips and Contacts have been on the Apple phone for years and the names are self explanatory. Tips will help you with all kinds of questions you may have about operating iPhone. Contacts is, of course, your phone book.
Much more interesting is the Mindapp. This app is brand new, so we don’t know exactly what you can do with it. The Mind app may be all about mental health, a topic that Apple has focused more and more attention on in recent years.
New name, ‘old’ app?
Another possibility is that Mind is simply the new name of Breathe, an app that has been present on the Apple Watch since watchOS 5. The Breathing app tries to calm watch wearers through breathing exercises.
Anyway, the new watchOS 8 apps indicate that the Apple Watch is gradually becoming more independent. The watch was once intended as an accessory for your iPhone, but in recent years it has received more and more exclusive and distinctive functions.
Follow the reveal of watchOS 8
Tonight at 7 p.m WWDC 2021 kicks off. At this event, Apple will present new software versions, including iOS 15, macOS 12 and therefore watchOS 8. We expect the Apple Watch update from 2021 to focus mainly on new health features.
