Official: Apple announces special online event on May 7

Last week, Apple officially announced a special event for May 7. The press moment will most likely be entirely dedicated to the iPad and will take place online. Apple is expected to announce the new iPad Air (6th generation) and iPad Pro with OLED screen.

The press presentation starts at 4:00 PM Dutch time and, like previous events, can be followed live on the iPhone, iPad, iPod and desktop via this page, YouTube and via the TV app on the Apple TV.

In a new patent, Apple describes a new function that they may want to introduce in a future Apple Watch. It would be a kind of alarm system that is activated when the wearer is in danger of drowning.

Through all kinds of sensors, patterns and measurements, the Apple Watch may soon be able to recognize when a person is in danger and may be drowning. Bystanders are then alerted so that they can help.

Apple did not update a single iPad last year, which is why 2024 will be all about major iPad upgrades, starting with the iPad Pro. This is expected to have an M3 chip, MagSafe and a modified design with OLED.

There have been rumors for some time about adding OLED screens to Apple’s iPad line. According to the Korean website The Elec, the iPad Pro would make the switch to OLED, including the larger model. This does come at the expense of the price. Currently, all iPad models have an LCD screen; except for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which has a display with MicroLED.
