Website

The first way to send files is through the website of WeTransfer. Uploading files is very easy. Open the website and drag your files from Finder or your desktop to your browser window. Do this for all files you want to send. You then have two different options.

The first is to send the transfer via email. Enter the recipient’s email address and then your own. If necessary, add a message and click on ‘Send’. When the recipient has downloaded your files, you will receive an email to notify you.

The second option is to get a link only. To do this, click on the three dots and tick ‘Get transfer link’. Drag the files into the window and click ‘Create my link’. When you click on ‘Copy link’, the link is placed on your clipboard and you can paste it into any program or text field to share with someone.

Mac app

Although the website is already very simple, the Mac app makes it even easier for you. If you use it often, the WeTransfer app should not be missing from a MacBook. When you have installed the app you will see a WeTransfer icon at the top right of the menu bar. All you have to do is select a file and drag it to the icon. Your file will then be uploaded automatically.

Don’t have the file with you? Then click on the icon and then on ‘Upload files’. Then you can select your files yourself. Once your file has been uploaded, you will receive a push notification with a button to copy the link. This will be placed on your clipboard so that you can paste it into a text field yourself. You can then send this link in any way you want, for example via email or a WhatsApp message.

iOS app: Collect

WeTransfer also has a handy app for iPhone and iPad. This one might be a bit more difficult to find, because it doesn’t have WeTransfer in the title. The app is called ‘Collect: Save and share ideas’. After downloading the app you will get a small introduction. Then you can get started in the app.

The app works very intuitively. To upload a file, press the plus sign, after which you select the type of file. You even have the option to scan a document that you have on paper. You also have the option in the app to create a mood board with different types of files.

If you only want to send files quickly, tap ‘share files’ at the top right. You will then immediately be given the option to share the link via an external app, or to copy a link. Here you can set whether recipients may only view or edit the file.
