Sometimes Instagram users put the text ‘Link in bio’ below their photos. But what does this actually mean?
What is #Linkinbio?
By the text ‘link in bio’ under Instagram posts, users mean that their bio has a certain link to a website. This biography is basically a short description about the Instagram user and is at the top of someone’s profile page. But you can also put a url there. Visitors can then open it with a tap on the link. The bio is the only possible place for this. Instagram does not allow clickable links in other places, such as in photo captions or in the comments. The link in bio is a ‘solution’, as it were. For example, many companies often link to their website or online store.
So the Instagrammers who use the text ‘link in bio’ or ‘#linkinbio’ in a post want others to take action. Namely that they go to their profile page, view their page and click on the link that leads to other content. So it’s kind of a promotional ploy.
Open link in bio
To open a link that’s in someone’s Instagram biography:
- Open the profile of the person concerned. For example, tap someone’s name when he or she posts a photo. Or find them in the friends list or via the search bar. For example, go to the ‘seniorwebnl’ Instagram page.
- Above the overview with all photos is the biography. Sometimes there is a short description with a blue link. Tap this.
The #linkinbo opens and you go to the linked website.
Put link in bio
Put your own link in the bio:
- Open Instagram.
- Tap your profile photo.
- Tap on Edit profile.
- Tap on Website and type the link you want to refer to.
- Optionally tap Bio or Biography and enter a corresponding text. For example, ‘Take a look at my website below’.
- Choose Finished (iOS) or a check mark icon (Android).
