What’s new in the Windows 10 21H1 update

Microsoft has rolled out a new update for Windows 10, the so-called Spring Update. In recent years, this update has been the larger of the two updates that Microsoft releases annually. That is different this year: only in the fall will there be a major update for Windows 10. The Windows 10 21H1 update does bring some improvements to security and remote working.

In October, there will be long-awaited improvements to Windows Explorer, as well as a significant change in the look and feel of the entire operating system. Microsoft therefore decided not to tackle major issues for the spring update. However, the latest update would reduce the start time of apps that use roaming and the performance of Windows Defender Application Guard has improved.

Opening documents should also be faster thanks to the new version of Windows 10. Furthermore, it will be easier for companies to enable remote working in Windows 10.

We’ll get a bigger update to Windows 10 in the fall.

New functions

In addition to some modest improvements to the operating system, there are a handful of new features, including the ability to set external cameras as default. For example, you do not have to log in with the camera on your laptop when logging into Windows.

Furthermore, some users are already seeing the News and Interests widget in the taskbar. The widget was actually only expected in the second Windows update later this year, but has already been made available. Since the spring update is gradually being rolled out, you may not see the widget yet.

The widget provides an overview of, among other things, the latest news, weather forecasts and traffic information based on your location. The widget can be arranged almost entirely as you wish.

Finally, Adobe Flash is no longer part of the operating system, but you probably won’t notice that much. You’ve probably even been working without it for a while. Flash has been disabled in browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Edge for a while for security reasons.

Install update

If you want to update your system to the latest version, go to the settings via the start menu. click on Update and Security. Here you would Windows 10, version 21H1 which you can then download and install. If you don’t see this option, you can also update your operating system to the latest version via Microsoft’s update tool. Download the tool here and update your device in this way after Microsoft has verified that your PC is compatible.
