The popular messaging service WhatsApp is working on a new Communities feature. But what is it and what does it look like? More is now known about this, thanks to a new beta (test version) of WhatsApp.
WhatsApp Communities
The Communities function has been built into the test version of WhatsApp for a while, the website WABetaInfo discovered. This makes it possible to bring multiple groups together and link them to the Community.
Now we know more about what WhatsApp is up to with Communities. The website WABetaInfo found the above screenshot in WhatsApp 22.4.0.75 beta. There, WhatsApp describes the feature as follows:
- Bring your groups together†Add the groups you manage to one place for easy access.
- Reach everyone at once. Send announcements to all members and keep them informed.
Such a Community thus gives group managers much more control over groups. For example, you can create a Community of your football club, to which you add all group apps of the teams. If there is an announcement for all teams, you send it from the Community. This way all affiliated groups are informed.

A Community also makes it easier to create a new group. If you choose ‘Create New Group’, you select a part of the existing Community for the new WhatsApp group. Users can also see which groups belong to a Community.

When will the feature come out?
It is not clear when WhatsApp will launch the Communities feature. However, we expect this to take a while. The feature is still under development and even beta testers can’t try it out yet.
