Privacy in WhatsApp has become increasingly important in recent years. Meta has been under fire several times due to privacy concerns, after which many new functions have been added to WhatsApp. Nowadays you can perform a privacy check, where you see an overview of the privacy settings for your account in WhatsApp. Yet this does not contain all functions, so there is no important attitude to really secure conversations in WhatsApp.
All conversations in WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted, which means that only you and the recipient can read the messages. No one else has access to these messages, not even WhatsApp itself. This applies to both private and group discussions, but you can protect chats even better. For that, WhatsApp has introduced ‘advanced privacy for chats’, but you have to switch on that function manually.
Advanced privacy for chats
WhatsApp has added a new feature that is better protected by all conversations. With ‘advanced privacy for chats’, conversations cannot be exported and media is not stored automatically. That applies to you, but also to other contacts in the private or group conversation. In this way you can protect conversations in WhatsApp even better:
- Open ‘WhatsApp’;
- Go to a conversation that you want to secure better;
- Tap the name above the (group) conversation;
- Choose ‘advanced privacy for chats’;
- Turn on the switch after ‘Advanced privacy for chats’.
With ‘advanced privacy for chats’ you add an extra layer of security to conversations in WhatsApp. This way you know for sure that the conversation is not exported undesirably and you prevent photos or videos from being distributed outside the chat. In addition, all functions of Meta AI are eliminated in the conversation. The Chatbot from WhatsApp does not get access to the messages in the chat, even if Meta AI is mentioned.

Do you want to secure all conversations in WhatsApp? Then it is advisable to encourage ‘advanced privacy for chats’ in every conversation. Unfortunately, it is not (yet) possible to activate the function for all conversations in one go. You must switch on the setting separately for each chat. All participants of the interview then receive a report that advanced privacy for chats is engaged.
Please note, because the advanced function prevents media from being stored automatically in your film role. Do you regularly receive images or videos in WhatsApp?
