What are transcriptions?
Sometimes someone texts you with a voice message that you then have to listen to to find out what the sender wants you to know. But you may be in a place with a lot of noise or you may be in a place where you cannot listen to voice messages, for example during a meeting or in a cinema. Whatever the reason, it won’t make much difference now with the new transcription feature. What it does is convert (transcribe) voice messages into text, so you can still follow the conversation. What makes this feature even better is that your device generates these texts, not WhatsApp. This means that these messages are not generated on WhatsApp and are therefore not stored on the WhatsApp servers themselves; This means that no one from WhatsApp can read or hear these messages.
How do you turn it on?
You can enable the Transcription function by going to Institutions by clicking on the three dots at the top right of your screen. Then you click on Chats that is located approximately in the middle of your screen and then tap Transcripts of voice messages to choose a language. If you followed these steps, this should be enabled. You can then press and hold a voice message and then press Ttranscribe tapping will create a transcription of your chosen voice message. This process is quite short, but of course it also depends on how long the voice message is, so based on the length you may need some patience.
Availability Transcription function
Unfortunately, this function is not yet available to everyone. This feature will be rolled out with a few languages ​​in the coming weeks and unfortunately, Dutch is not one of those languages. The current languages ​​you can choose are English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian. Fortunately, more languages ​​will be added in the coming months, including Dutch, although it is not known when Dutch will be added as one of the supported languages.
