WhatsApp gets a useful feature (which we have been waiting for for a long time)

WhatsApp has previously announced this handy new feature for group chats and is now finally releasing the update – it’s coming soon.

WhatsApp gets a handy new feature

The feature that WhatsApp will soon come with is support for group conversations in the web version of the chat service. This allows all users of a group chat to participate in conversations, regardless of the device they are using.

WhatsApp previously announced that calling options would be added to the web client. This update should bring the desktop app experience in line with that of the web client. For example, if you use a computer that isn’t your own, you can use WhatsApp Web to make calls without installing an app.

As you can see, the new feature in WhatsApp makes it possible to make group calls directly from the web client. When the feature was announced last year, support for groups was still in the very early stages. WhatsApp is now working on improving its basic calling features to be fully compatible with group chats.

There are also limitations

Similar to calls made from WhatsApp for Android and iOS, calls made from the web client will also have some limitations. Calls with up to 32 participants are likely supported. WhatsApp has yet to confirm this during the official release. The limit is intended to ensure a stable calling experience and prevent interruptions. It is unclear whether WhatsApp may start with a lower participant limit and gradually expand it later.

WhatsApp is also developing a feature that will allow you to generate a call link directly from the group chat interface. Others can use that link to join the call. WhatsApp is also working on the option to schedule conversations, both for individual chats and for group chats. A scheduled call has a name and description so others know its purpose. When scheduling, users can also specify the estimated start and end time.

Scheduling does not mean that the conversation starts automatically. You create an event that is shared with the users involved. This way everyone knows in advance when someone will start the conversation. Users must indicate whether it is a voice or video call. The new features will be released in a future update. It is still unclear exactly when, but we will of course keep you informed. If you don’t want to miss anything, sign up for our newsletter!
