Just update! A new version of WhatsApp is available, bringing new iOS 18 features to the chat service. Here they are.
New version WhatsApp
An update is available for WhatsApp! The chat service will have special features that can only be used if your iPhone runs on iOS 18. Apple released iOS 18 in September, which gives you much more freedom in organizing your iPhone’s home screen. This gives you more options when placing and setting widgets. After the update, WhatsApp has support for these features in iOS 18.
With the new software version you can add various widgets from WhatsApp to your home screen in iOS 18. These widgets show your most recent chat conversations, so you can open the conversation with one tap on your home screen. You decide how big the widget is, you can choose from a square or rectangular shape. The smaller version shows the two most recent chats, the larger widget shows the four most recent conversations.
WhatsApp gets more camera functions
Do you have iOS 18 installed on your iPhone and do you regularly use WhatsApp? Then you can add widgets to the app from the latest software version. You do this by pressing and holding the home screen of your iPhone and tapping ‘Edit > Add Widgets’ at the top left. Select WhatsApp there, determine the size of the widget and place the shortcut on your home screen. This gives you direct access to your most recent chats.
That’s not all, because WhatsApp also gets a feature for users who do not have iOS 18. The camera has more options when zooming in and out when you take photos or videos via WhatsApp. You can now zoom from 0.5x to 3x with the camera. You get this option as soon as you open the camera in the app itself. Next to the shutter button you will find a gray dot with the zoom function you are currently using. Tap the dot to switch between different modes.
Update available now
WhatsApp has now released the update for everyone, so you can now update the app via the App Store. The latest software version is number 24.21.81. Have you installed the update? Then you can add widgets from WhatsApp and also adjust the size of these widgets with iOS 18. The latter is not possible if your iPhone runs on iOS 17 or lower, because Apple only introduced this function with iOS 18.
The zoom functions are available to all users, so it is easier to zoom in or out when you use the camera in WhatsApp. Be careful, because not all iPhones have the same zoom functions. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) can optically zoom in up to 5x, while the iPhone 16 (Plus) can zoom in up to 2x. So you can zoom in, but the quality will be less good.
