The latest beta of WhatsApp for iPhone features new animated emojis. Telegram already had this feature, and now WhatsApp seems to be taking over.

These new emojis replace the ones from iOS. At the moment, there are only a few of these animations, such as a wink, a smiley face, and a red heart. The website WABetaInfo thinks that WhatsApp has chosen the most popular emojis first and that they will then transfer others.

When you select an emoji in the beta version of the iPhone app, you’ll first see the standard iOS design of the emoji. But once you select and send it, you’ll see the new animated Meta emoji in the chat message. You can tap the emoji to see the animation again.

It is not yet known when WhatsApp will make the new emojis available to everyone. In addition, Apple must also approve the update. Telegram made a fuss about this at the time, because some of the animated emojis looked too much like those of iOS. Telegram was then forced to remove the emojis. So we will have to wait and see whether WhatsApp can and may take over this beloved function of Telegram.

More new features coming to WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been busy introducing new features for some time now. For example, the chat app will soon have an option to have an AI analyze your photos. The AI can then also adjust the photo for you by means of a text prompt. You can read more about this in the article: WhatsApp test function lets AI analyze all your photos.

In addition, WhatsApp now has a function that always sends photos in the best quality. This prevents WhatsApp from lowering the image quality and you do not have to turn on the HD button every time.
