Which country do most compact business cars come from?

The compact car segment (A and B segment) is one in which many cars are sold. The reason for this is that these compact cars are interesting for multiple target groups. Think of starters at a company, as a shared car concept, starting accountants, in healthcare or as replacement transport for maintenance or damage. In short, they are very popular.

At Vereniging Bedrijfs Rijders (VZR), the most interesting compact cars were looked into. For this, the business license plate registrations of the past six months have been viewed. Looking at the countries where the car makes come from, it appears that the top 10 is fairly evenly distributed.

France and Germany narrowly win

Of the top 10, the most sold models, three, come from France and Germany. The brothers Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1 come from France. They have been developed jointly. The third French model is the just-renewed Renault Clio.

Of the cars from Germany, it is actually Volkswagen that wins, with the Polo and the Up. The third “Volkswagen model” is the Seat Ibiza. Originally a Spanish brand, Seat has been owned by Volkswagen since 1990. The technology comes from Volkswagen, but in the communication and naming you see that Volkswagen does not let go of the Spanish Seat past.

Japan in second place

The Japanese Toyota is present with two models in the VZR Lease Top 10. These are the Toyota Aygo and Toyota Yaris. These models are now well known by a large audience. The business driver knows where to find them every month, given the sales numbers.

America and South Korea are closing the gap

These two countries each deliver one model for the top 10. The compact Kia Picanto comes from South Korea. With the Ford Fiesta, America is also in the top 10. Although almost all European Ford models are designed and built in Europe, Ford is truly American. The Fiesta is thereby the success number in the compact class, where especially its good handling and fine engines are praised.
