Why are there so few archaeological traces of Roman presence in the Meetjesland?

Is this because there were relatively few to no problems with Menapii? Or because the land between present-day Ghent and the coast was not suitable for growing grain. Or are there other reasons?

Answer

Gallo-Roman excavations have indeed been made, and even older ones, but the intensive peat extraction may have destroyed a lot.
