Why the police want you to hide an AirTag in your own car

If it were up to the British police, all car owners should put an AirTag or other tracker in their cars. According to a police unit from the British district of Sheffield, this is to prevent car owners from ‘having a much more expensive problem later on’.

British police reported on Twitter that they have recovered a stolen vehicle, because the owner of the car previously hid an AirTag in the car. “We recommend all car owners to consider putting a low-cost tracker in their car,” British police said on Twitter.

Police Tool

British police were able to track the stolen car through the posted AirTag and found the vehicle 40 minutes later in another part of Sheffield. “This incident shows that placing trackers in vehicles will help us find them if they are unfortunately stolen,” British police concluded.

Nothing or no one has yet been arrested for the theft, but at least the car is back in the hands of its rightful owner. That can be deduced from the message from the British police unit. The investigation into the perpetrator (or possible perpetrators) is still ongoing.

AirTag in your car, bicycle and scooter?

This is not the first time that an AirTag or other tracker has been used to track down stolen cars, electric scooters or bicycles. However, we have not seen before that the police actually recommend placing a tracker in your car.

The AirTag is a great success for Apple anyway. The company has sold millions of copies in recent times. It seems that this number will increase significantly in the coming years. With the blessing of the British police, that number can really only get higher and higher.
