Why you absolutely should not buy a MacBook Pro now nu

Yes, the MacBook Pro is a beautiful device. But no, it’s better not to get the powerful laptop now. We explain why in this article. Here’s why you shouldn’t buy a MacBook Pro right now.

Now is a bad time to buy the MacBook Pro

The summary boils down to really bad timing. According to rumors, Apple will announce a new MacBook Pro next Monday. This laptop seems to appear in two sizes (14 and 16 inches) and to have all kinds of new, cool functions on board.

The most important improvement is the switch to Apple Silicon. Apple no longer cooperates with Intel and makes its own computer chips from now on. That’s great, because these homemade Apple chips are not only more powerful than their Intel ancestors, but also more energy-efficient, for example.

In 2020, Apple announced that it would transfer all its desktops and laptops to Silicon in the coming years. The current 13-inch MacBook Pro already has such an M1 chip on board and the results are impressive. Not only is the laptop faster, it also works much better with your iPhone and iPad.

New MacBook Pro (probably) on the way

Furthermore, it appears from rumors that the new MacBook Pro will have a different, more angular design. Leaked drawings show that the design will resemble other Apple products, such as the brand new iMac with M1 chip that has recently been on sale. The new Apple laptop also seems to get more connections, including an HDMI port.

In short: it is better not to buy a new MacBook Pro now. It is wiser to wait and see what Apple comes up with on June 7th. Is the company actually announcing the new Pro laptop? Great: then the old MacBook Pro will be removed from the range and you can (probably) get started with the laptop sometime this summer.

Will the announcement of the MacBook Pro 2021 not be forthcoming? Then you still haven’t lost anything and you can get another laptop. Apple sells three laptops at the time of writing:

  • MacBook Air from 2020 with M1 chip
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch) from 2020 with M1 chip
  • MacBook Pro (16 inch) from 2019 with Intel chip

These Apple laptops are best bought

We dare to recommend the first two options with confidence. The small MacBook Pro and MacBook Air have already been transferred to the Apple M1 chip and are therefore very future-proof.

We are particularly fond of the MacBook Air. This is undoubtedly the best deal of the moment in terms of price-quality ratio. That’s because the Air is almost as powerful as the MacBook Pro (13 inch), but much cheaper. The main advantage of the Pro laptop is that it has a built-in fan, so you can use it just a little more intensively.

In any case, don’t buy the 16-inch MacBook Pro. This is from 2019 and runs on an outdated Intel chip. In other words, it is less powerful than the much cheaper MacBook Air (with M1 chip) and smaller MacBook Pro. The only possible advantage of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is its screen size.

On to June 7th

On June 7 at 7 p.m Dutch time, WWDC 2021 will kick off. Apple’s annual meeting for app developers will once again take place entirely online. WWDC is traditionally kicked off with a keynote in which all new software versions are announced.

This year iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS 12 and tvOS 15 are on the agenda. According to rumors, the company is not only announcing software, but also new hardware, including the new MacBook Pro.
