Apple released an iPad Air in 2024, but is the predecessor from 2023? We list all versions for you.
Has Apple released an iPad Air 2023?
The first iPad Air that Apple released dates back to 2013. We are now in the sixth generation. So you can count on your fingers that Apple has not released an iPad Air every year. A year is regularly skipped, but the biggest gap is between the iPad Air 2 from 2014 and the iPad Air 3 from 2019.
- iPad Air (2013)
- iPad Air 2 (2014)
- iPad Air 3 (2019)
- iPad Air 4 (2020)
- iPad Air 5 (2022)
- iPad Air M2 (2024)
In addition to the four-year gap between the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Air 3, you can see that a year has been skipped twice. That was in 2021 and therefore also in 2023. Apple did not release an iPad Air in 2023.
The next version
You might therefore think that the next iPad Air will not be released in 2025, but only in 2026 (just as the M2 version was not released in 2023, but only in 2024). However, that is probably not the case, as it is expected in the spring of 2025. The new version of the iPad Air will have an M3 chip and is therefore called the iPad Air M3. This chip is a lot faster than the chip in the iPad Air M2, but it is still inferior to the M4 chip that you find in the iPad Pro 2024.
Rumors also say that the iPad Air M3’s screen will be better. The screen of the iPad Air M2 can refresh up to 60 Hz (or 60 frames per second). The iPad Pro’s screen is better and has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz with ProMotion. The iPad Air M3 is rumored to have an LCD screen that can go up to 90 Hz.
If you want to purchase an iPad Air, you could wait for the iPad Air M3. If the rumors are true, it will be released within about five months (maybe even less). If you don’t want to wait for that, we recommend the iPad Air M2. You have the choice two sizesnamely 11 inches and 13 inches.
