HomePod and Apple Intelligence

In 2023, Apple surprised by releasing a new generation of the HomePod. With an S7 chip, improved microphones and a touchscreen, Apple brought a number of new functions to the speaker. An important part of the HomePod is still control via Siri, Apple’s own voice assistant. Siri is precisely what is being introduced Apple Intelligence much smarter, but the technology does not come to the HomePod at all.

The new AI functions only come to the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, because they run on the A17 Pro chip. Macs and iPads require that the device runs on an M1 chip (or newer) to receive support for Apple Intelligence. The new technology will therefore not come to the Apple Watch and the HomePod, which run on Apple’s S-chip. Does the HomePod have to do without it completely? Apple Intelligence doing?

New HomePod in the making

There is therefore little chance that the HomePod will be expanded with the technology, because the speaker still runs on the S7 chip. The voice assistant can then answer multiple commands in succession, works with ChatGPT, is expanded with multiple language models and is aware of the context when answering emails or messages.

The next HomePod will have to wait

We still have to wait a while for the next HomePod, because Apple is focusing on the iPhone 16, Apple Watch X, AirPods 4 and new iPads this year. These devices are likely to be provided with Apple Intelligence and the updated version of Siri. If the new generation of Siri proves to be a success with these devices, the HomePod will soon be seen as outdated. That’s reason enough for Apple Apple Intelligence can also be brought to the HomePod.

It is therefore quite possible that we will see a new, more powerful generation of the HomePod next year. The speaker may then have a larger screen, with support for tvOS.
