With iOS 15.2, your iPhone gets four new features

This week Apple released iOS 15.1 and now there is already reason to look ahead to the next major interim update. The new features of iOS 15.2 are known.

iOS 15.2: Two New Features

Apple released the developer beta (a test version) of iOS 15.2 on Wednesday, so we already know what the next major interim update to iOS 15 will bring. These are the four innovations in iOS 15.2.

1. Privacy Report for Apps

An important addition in iOS 15.2 is the privacy report for apps, a feature that Apple already demonstrated during the presentation of iOS 15 in June. This shows you, per app, how many times in the past week they have accessed sensitive data, such as your location, photos, microphone, camera and contacts.

You can also see which other domains have made contact, so that you gain more insight into what apps do behind the scenes. You must enable the Privacy Report for apps before you see the statistics. You can do this via the Settings app, under ‘Privacy’.

2. SOS emergency notification

With iOS 15.2, your iPhone gets four new features

The Emergency SOS feature has been improved in iOS 15.2. You can set the emergency services to be called already by pressing the side button five times quickly. Then the iPhone counts down, from eight seconds. After this, the iPhone calls the emergency services. The countdown is longer than before, because now it lasts three seconds.

Another way to enable emergency services is to press and hold the side button and volume button. That is now also possible with iOS 15.1. An SOS slider will then appear. If you swipe it to the right, the iPhone starts a countdown from eight seconds, after which the emergency services are activated.

3. Notification overview

What Apple improves is the notification overview. This is a new feature of iOS 15 that won’t disturb you all day long with non-urgent notifications. Instead, your iPhone delivers them periodically, in a summary.

In iOS 15.2, the notification overview has been given a new look, making it easier to see what is in the summary.

4. More security with iMessage

Apple is also adding a Communication Safety feature, which the company announced earlier this year. The feature is built into the Messages app and warns parents if their child receives or sends a photo of a sexual nature. This checking is done with machine learning, which also automatically blurs the photo.

iOS 15.1

iOS 15.2 is expected to be installed around early November. However, you can already get started with the innovations in iOS 15.1. You can read what Apple changed in the interim update here:
