Too loud a sound is disastrous for your hearing, even if you don’t realize it is too loud – thanks to these 2 tips you no longer have to pay attention to it.
With these tips you can prevent damage to your hearing
Damage to your hearing often occurs unnoticed. At a loud concert you often realize that you need hearing protection. If you listen to music or your AirPods at home, everything seems safe. But appearances can be deceiving, especially if you listen to your AirPods very often. Fortunately, you can protect yourself and your hearing with these two useful tips.
1. Bluetooth: always the right volume
The first of the two tips for protecting your hearing is a handy Bluetooth tip. In your list of Bluetooth devices you can indicate per device what type of device it is. That may not seem that important at all. But if you do indicate this, your iPhone will from now on automatically set the correct volume.
You can easily indicate this in the Settings app. Tap Bluetooth, then tap the “i” behind one of the devices in the list. Then tap ‘Device type’ and indicate whether it is a car stereo, headphones, hearing aid, speaker or something else.

2. Headphone safety
Number two of these tips for protecting your hearing also concerns volume. And then the volume of your headphones. Your iPhone can protect you against loud noises, provided it is set correctly, of course. You can check this as follows:
- Open the Settings app;
- Scroll down;
- Tap ‘Hear and feel’;
- Scroll down again;
- Tap ‘Headphone Safety’;
- Turn on Reduce Loud Noise;
- Adjust the decibels.

Conversely, if you want to listen to music loudly (not a good tip for your hearing) and it bothers you that the volume keeps going down, you can temporarily disable this function here.
