With this Xedos 6 you bring typical Mazda creativity into your home – Enthusiast Wanted

The Mazda showroom was a true paradise when it came to creative models in the 1990s. The Xedos 6 also made a nice contribution in that regard.

There was certainly no shortage of creativity and innovation at Mazda in the 80s and 90s. Anyone who walked into the showroom in the 90s to take a look at the showroom could see a compact convertible (MX-5), various coupes (such as the MX- 3. MX-6), a sports car with a rotary engine (RX-7) and specially designed luxury models (Xedos 6 and Xedos 9). All in addition to the regular line-up, with cars like the 323 and 626.

If marketing departments at the time had already mastered the term ‘four-door coupe’, Mazda might have used it to describe the Xedos 6. It was basically a 626, but with a very special and, for that time, smooth bodywork, with a short tail and sloping tailgate. Tastes differ, but Mazda’s design department had done its best on the Xedos 6. That was allowed, because the car emerged from Mazda’s desire to carry a luxury label above the basic brand; Eunos. In other markets, the just like big brother Xedos 9, it is primarily a more luxurious alternative to the 626 and 929 respectively on which they were based.

Mazda Xedos 6

The Mazda We are referring to its velor upholstery and especially very dark color scheme. It could be a bit more extravagant, the Xedos 6. Colleagues Jan Lemkes and Lars Krijgsman can talk about that. They both had a Xedos 6 (the same one that used to belong to Jan) in a more striking color and with gray/beige leather upholstery. It was also just a bit more original (except for the gas tank) because on this black one from 1998 we spotted an exhaust that didn’t belong there.

At the same time, you have little choice if you want to purchase a Mazda Xedos 6, because there are not that many left. For €1,950 it may be a nice opportunity. Pay attention to rust, that is actually the biggest enemy. The relatively small V6 can easily handle higher settings than the 209,000 km it has now driven. Will you take care of this special piece of Japanese car history?
