World premiere Honda safety plan: 0 road deaths by 2050

Honda unveils the world premiere of advanced future safety technologies, with the goal of reducing the annual number of road fatalities to zero by 2050.

World premiere Honda safety plan: 0 road deaths by 2050

A society in which everyone who participates in traffic no longer runs the risk of traffic accidents and can therefore enjoy mobility with total peace of mind, that is the rationale behind the presented plan of advanced future safety technologies.

Honda believes that two key technologies will help achieve the goal of achieving zero road accidents with Honda motorcycles and cars worldwide by 2050. On the one hand, ‘Intelligent Driver-Assistive Technology’, which provides assistance adapted to each individual’s ability and situation to reduce driving errors and risks, allowing the driver to drive safely.

The other is the ‘Safe and Sound Network Technology’ that connects all road users, both people and mobility products, via telecommunications, making it possible to predict potential risks and help people avoid such risks before actual collisions occur.

Honda is committed to a collision-free society for all who share the road, and this is reflected in the global safety slogan ‘Safety for all’. Honda’s research and development of safety technologies is done from both a hardware and software perspective.

To pursue a collision-free society, Honda will extend the introduction of Honda SENSING 360, a recently announced omnidirectional safety and driver assistance system, to all models that will be on sale in all major markets by 2030. In addition, Honda will continue to work on expanding the application of a motorcycle detection function and further improving the functions of its ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance System).

In addition, Honda will also continue to make progress in expanding the adoption of motorcycle safety technologies and offering safety education technologies (Honda Safety EdTech). Through these initiatives, Honda will strive to reduce the number of road fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and cars by half*1 by 2030.

Furthermore, Honda will strive to achieve its ambitious goal of ‘zero fatal road accidents by 2050’ by developing future safety technologies as quickly as possible.

Honda has researched and developed ‘technology to understand people’ with an original method using fMRI with the aim of unraveling the root causes of driving errors that make drivers anxious.

In addition to technologies Honda has amassed thus far to understand human behavior and conditions, the “Intelligent Driver-Assistive Technology” unveiled today, the world’s first such technology, uses ADAS sensors and cameras to identify potential risks in the vehicle’s environment. so that AI can detect driving risks. At the same time, AI will determine the optimal driving behavior in real time and provide assistance adapted to the cognitive state and traffic situations of each individual driver.

With the next generation of driver support features currently being researched and developed, Honda will strive to deliver the new value of ‘flawless’ safety and peace of mind adapted to the driving behavior and situation of each individual driver and away from potential hazards.

Keiji Ohtsu, President and Representative Director of Honda R&D Co., Ltd.:

“Honda strives to completely eliminate mobility risks for everyone sharing the road, offering safety and peace of mind to every road user as a new value. By applying our future safety technologies that will embody such new value, Honda will work towards achieving ‘zero road fatalities’ worldwide by 2050 involving Honda motorcycles and cars. To realize a collision-free society in which all road users take care of each other and freedom of mobility becomes possible, we will further accelerate our industry-wide and public-private initiatives.”
