Chinese EV builder Xpeng will partner with compatriot and e-commerce giant Alibaba. The two are opening a development center in China, where testing work should be carried out much faster than is currently the case.
In the new development center, car brand Xpeng uses technology from Alibaba. This makes it possible to process enormous amounts of data very quickly, CNBC reports. What used to take a week at Xpeng, should now be done in an hour. This is necessary to train the algorithm, with a huge stock of scenarios that must make a self-driving car up to the task.
The ‘Alibaba’ in question belongs to the same group as the internet shops of the same name, but is not exactly the same party where you have been buying sunglasses for 1.5 dollars including shipping for years. More specifically, this concerns Alibaba Cloud, a department that focuses on technological solutions for Alibaba itself and other parties. Alibaba has recently been pushing these activities more emphatically, according to CNBC, because the results of the other branches of the group were less good than hoped. Alibaba has tasted cars before, but after the ‘internet car’ from 2016, the company no longer made it to this website.
Xpeng is one of the Chinese brands that are emphatically aiming at Tesla. Therefore, it is not enough to build good EVs, but the company must also come up with a worthy alternative to Tesla’s Autopilot with ‘Full Self Driving’. Under the name Navigation Guided Pilot, NGP for short, something similar is already available at Xpeng. Like Tesla’s solution, it first only worked on the highway, but now to some extent in the city as well.
