Yamaha celebrates 40 years of Ténéré

This year it is exactly 40 years ago that the Yamaha Ténéré saw the light of day. Reason for the Japanese to celebrate this in an appropriate way with a 40th Anniversary tour through Europe.

Yamaha celebrates 40 years of Ténéré

They are proud at Yamaha, with the 40th anniversary of the Ténéré, which made its name and fame in the illustrious Paris-Dakar rally (when it was even less commercial than now and the challenge was much greater). According to Yamaha, the Ténéré has inspired riders to push the boundaries of what is possible.

The palmārēs don’t lie. In the decades since Cyril Neveu claimed a historic double victory in the first and second Paris-Dakar in 1979 and 1980, Team Yamaha has achieved unimaginable results.

Ténéré icons such as Jean-Claude Olivier, Serge Bacou and Monsieur Dakar Stéphane Peterhansel, whose record of six Yamaha victories that began in 1991 remains unbeaten to this day, rode their Yamahas through some of the world’s toughest terrain.

Most recently, Yamaha Ambassador Nick Sanders took a trip around the world in his Ténéré 700, while factory riders Pol Tarrés and Alessandro Botturi are making rally history on their GYTR-equipped Ténéré 700 World Raid machines.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Ténéré in a suitable way together with the Ténéré community, Yamaha has now set up a 40th Anniversary tour through Europe. A collection of historic Ténéré production models (1983-2010), as well as the original Dakar classics will be on display.

In addition to a full lineup of the latest Ténéré models for event participants to test drive, the new Ténéré 700 World Rally will also be launched to the public during the 40th Anniversary tour. The Ténéré 700 World Rally, in striking factory racing colours, is inspired by the YZE 850 that Peterhansel took to victory in 1993.

The Ténéré 40th Anniversary tour already made a triumphant stop at the Adventure Bike Rider Festival, the largest adventure riding festival in Europe. The event was a resounding success, with a lively atmosphere and an overwhelming sense of excitement among those in attendance.

Yamaha celebrated this momentous occasion together with the passionate Ténéré community. Festival-goers had the chance to experience the Ténéré’s prowess first-hand during thrilling off-road and on-road test drives on the latest Yamaha models.

Expert demo rides showcased the Ténéré’s capabilities in challenging terrain and to top it off, Yamaha’s ambassador, the legendary Nick Sanders, joined the festivities and shared his captivating adventure film, inspiring everyone to share his incredible journeys.

The Ténéré 40th Anniversary tour will visit the following upcoming events:

– Ténéré Spirit Aguilar de Campoo | June 31 – July 1 | Spain

– MaxlRIDE Moto Festival | August 25-27 | Germany

– Alpes Aventure Motorcycle Festival | September 8-10 | France

More events may be added to the program during the year.
