The Scary Fast event is mainly focused on new Macs. But which Macs exactly will Apple announce?
You can expect these Macs during the Scary Fast event
It’s not likely that Apple will host an event just to show off an iMac upgrade to the M2 chip. We therefore expect Macs to come with an M3 chip. This new chip brings significant speed improvements, which also fits well with the words Scary Fast.
MacBook Pro
We expect the MacBook Pro during the Scary Fast event. There will be an M3 Max in there, where each individual CPU and GPU core will be a little faster than that of the M2 Max. According to previous rumors, the M3 Max will have 12 powerful CPU cores and 40 GPU cores, compared to 8 and 38 in the M2 version.
More than just more cores
In addition to more cores, Apple often adds other features to its high-end chips to speed up performance in certain areas. The M2 Pro and Max chips feature a 16-core Neural Engine, and it’s possible Apple could increase that number further. The maximum amount of memory, currently 96 GB, could also be further expanded.
Apart from the chips, the question is whether the MacBook Pro will change much. The 14- and 16-inch models have recently received a new design, so we don’t expect any changes in that regard yet. We will find out whether that is true during the Scary Fast event.
A new design for the 13-inch MacBook Pro?
The question remains what will happen to the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which has to make do without MagSafe and Touch Bar, and still has a design from the 2018 era. Maybe nothing. But Apple could be bringing the laptop to the M3 generation with a new design that looks more like the M2 MacBook Air introduced last summer.
Scary Fast: a faster processor for the iMac
The design of the latest iMac is still practically brand new. The M1 iMac was one of the first silicon Macs Apple released and has remained untouched ever since. We therefore expect a processor boost during the Scary Fast event, but no new design.
We also expect the 24-inch 4.5K display to remain as is. It would be nice if the iMac was not only available in an M3 basic configuration, but also with an M3 Pro chip.
The Scary Fast event takes place the night of Monday 30 to Tuesday 31 October, at 1:00 am Dutch time. Don’t have time to watch the Apple event at night, but do you want to stay informed about the new Apple products? Sign up for our newsletter and we will update you on Tuesday.
