In the European Union, it is now possible to download torrents on your iPhone and bypass Apple’s strict App Store policies. We show you how.
Download Torrents on your iPhone
To download torrents on your iPhone, you need a torrent app. You can now download one from the alternative app store AltStore PAL. This is now possible due to the introduction of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). This gives Apple less control over apps that are available there. As a result, you can now download and use apps that are not available in the App Store. And all without having to jailbreak your iPhone.

These are the apps in AltStore PAL which allows you to download torrents on your iPhone: iTorrent (a torrent client for iOS) and qBitControl (a remote client for managing qBittorrent). These apps are together with PeopleDrop (a social discovery platform) and UTM SE (a retro pc emulator) the first third-party apps in AltStore PAL. Unlike the other apps, UTM SE is approved by Apple and therefore available in the official App Store. Initially, the app was rejected last June.
Apple Guidelines
Apple has consistently banned torrent apps from the App Store. According to the company, they are often used to infringe on the rights of third parties. The DMA has now put a stop to this, allowing alternative app stores such as AltStore PAL to simply offer torrent apps. This means that it is possible to download torrents on your iPhone, even if the apps do not meet Apple’s guidelines.
To download torrents on your iPhone using the new torrent apps on AltStore PAL, you will need an iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later. The service also requires a subscription fee of €1.50 per year to cover Apple’s fees. More information about the apps and the subscription process can be found on the AltStore PAL website.
