With the official release of iOS 13 and iPadOS, Apple automatically releases Apple Arcade as well. To make room in the App Store for its own game service, your app updates can now be found elsewhere on your iPhone and iPad.
Update apps in iPadOS and iOS 13
With the introduction of Apple Arcade, the App Store will look slightly different from iOS 13. The game service will have its own tab, so there is no more space for the ‘Updates’ tab. Here you can see all apps up to iOS 12 for which an update is available, and then update the applications. This is just as easy in the revamped App Store, but the updates are hidden elsewhere. This will bring you to an overview of apps that have not yet been updated.

- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad;
- Make sure you are in the ‘Today’, ‘Games’, ‘Apps’ or ‘Arcade’ tab;
- Tap your profile picture at the top right;
- Scroll down until you see ‘Unfinished Updates’;
- Tap on ‘Update’ for a single app or on ‘Update all’ at the top to download all app updates.
This way you manually update your apps and you can also check what improvements are in an app update. Still, it is even more convenient to have your app updates done automatically.
Your iPhone or iPad will always update all your apps as soon as you are connected to a WiFi network. That way you don’t have to worry about it yourself. You can set these automatic app updates via ‘Settings> iTunes Store and App Store> Automatic downloads> App updates’.
