The rumors that Apple is working on a new Touch ID sensor for the iPhone have been going on for some time. Samsung has now introduced a new sensor, and it is so cool that we are only too happy to see it on an iPhone.
Samsung introduces new sensor
Samsung has announced a new OLED display, which includes a fingerprint scanner and health sensors. If you touch the screen with two fingers, your heart rate, blood pressure and stress level can be measured. This makes it a multifunctional sensor, because it also works as a security function with the fingerprint scanner.

The advanced OLED screen uses the reflection of the light to analyze the health data. For this you have to put two fingers on the screen. To measure blood pressure, it is a requirement that you place one finger of each hand on the display. According to Samsung, this makes it possible to collect very accurate health data.
Apple may be working on returning Touch ID
The advanced screen is more than interesting for Apple. Rumors that Apple is working on a new Touch ID and Face ID sensor hidden under the screen have been going on for years. With the new OLED screen, this function is one step closer. This could mean that Touch ID will eventually return to the iPhone, but in a different form than we’ve seen so far.
The last iPhone with Touch ID is the iPhone SE from 2022. Newer and more advanced iPhones no longer have a home button and therefore have to make do with Face ID. This sensor is currently still hidden in the notch or the Dynamic Island. However, it is expected that the front of the iPhone will consist entirely of screen in the future. All sensors are then processed under the screen.
New Face ID sensor with iPhone 16
This new Face ID sensor may be introduced with the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Ultra in 2024. The iPhones will no longer have a Dynamic Island, but will have a front that consists entirely of the display. There is still a small notch visible through the front camera of the phone.

Samsung’s new developments increase the chance that the Touch ID sensor will be added to the iPhone again. Earlier rumors predicted that it will be some time before such a sensor comes to the iPhone. The new OLED screen from Samsung can therefore change that. It is therefore quite possible that you will soon be able to unlock your iPhone with your finger again.
