Your iPhone has a secret button (and here’s how to activate it)
The physical Home button on the iPhone has been missing for years. The last model with such a button was the third generation iPhone SE. But some iPhone users secretly miss this button a bit.
We have good news for all these users. You can add a virtual Home button that takes up virtually no space and has the same options as the familiar Home button.
The function we use for this is AssistiveTouch. This feature was originally developed to make the iPhone more accessible for people who have difficulty with gestures or buttons. In practice, AssistiveTouch is extremely useful for almost everyone. This is how you set it up!
This way you give your iPhone a home button again
- Go to ‘Settings’;
- Tap ‘Accessibility’;
- Under ‘Physical and motor’, tap ‘Touch’;
- Tap ‘AssistiveTouch’ and switch the slider next to ‘AssistiveTouch’ to on.
You will now see a round button appear on your iPhone screen. You can move this button as desired. By default, this button only has the function of a home button, because tapping it opens the main screen.
But you can also add more functions to this. You do this on the screen where you have just enabled the AssistiveTouch function. Under ‘Custom tasks’ you can add or adjust some things. ‘Single tap’ is the only one that is set by default and by tapping on it you can also adjust that.
You can add more functions with ‘Double tap’ and ‘Long press’. For example, you can start the camera or lock the screen. There’s a whole list of features you can use for this ‘secret’ button on your iPhone.
