The part that has risen sharply in price lately and may make your next iPhone or Mac more expensive is the RAM. This working memory ensures that your iPhone works quickly and is certainly not slow. According to sources, the increase in the price of RAM can cause a smartphone to suddenly become 50 euros more expensive and a laptop even 100 euros more expensive.

Working memory has risen in price mainly due to the high demand from data centers. They are growing enormously and require more and more working memory for Artificial Intelligence. The demand there is so high that shortages arise in the production of laptops and smartphones, with all the consequences that entails.
Three times as expensive
On January 1, 2025, 32 GB of RAM cost an average of 111 euros. That price is according to the Pricewatch of Tweakers has now risen to 352 euros and the end does not seem to be in sight. This means that in a few months laptops will also become more expensive because of this part. The copies that are now in stores are still relatively cheap. That’s because they were built a few months ago with RAM that wasn’t as expensive then as it is now.
It also means that if RAM ever becomes cheaper again, it will take a few months before laptops and PCs drop in price again. It is expected that it will take at least another six months before the price of working memory will drop again. Add a few more months and you have an idea of when iPhones and Macs might become a little less expensive again.
