This year it will be exactly 30 years since Aprilia won its first world title in the road race Grand Prix. To celebrate, the Italians have released a limited version of the RSV4: the RSV4 XTrenta, the most extreme Aprilia ever built by the Racing department. The numbers: 230 hp at 166 kg.
Following the great success of the RSV4X in 2019 and the subsequent Tuono X, the most powerful and lightest Hypernaked ever built, Aprilia Racing has gone back to work on a new extraordinarily V4 project, the RSV4 XTrenta, an absolutely unique creation with which the Italians celebrate the 30th anniversary of Aprilia’s first world title.
According to Aprilia, the racing department has never applied so much MotoGP technology as it does with the RSV4 XTrenta in terms of materials, components, electronics, attention to detail, but above all aerodynamics, which are critical on a MotoGP machine these days.
All parts of the carbon fiber fairing are made by PAN Compositi, using the same processes as in MotoGP. The design includes a new large wing in the nose, which puts more weight on the front while reducing air resistance, and new wings in the butt.
But that’s not all. Aprilia has also equipped the RSV4 XTrenta with a so-called “under wing” mounted under the swingarm, making it the very first manufacturer to use this on a production bike.
The spoiler under the swingarm, often referred to as ‘spoon’ in MotoGP, was introduced by Ducati in 2019 and was immediately discredited, but Ducati claimed it had nothing to do with aerodynamics and was mounted purely to cool the rear tire.
The result of the aerodynamic adjustments is quite impressive. Aprilia claims that the pressure on the front wheel has increased by 25%, while the air resistance must have been reduced by 4%.
In terms of performance, the Racing department has considerably boosted the block, resulting in a top power of 230 hp. This has been achieved by increasing the compression ratio, in consultation with a titanium and carbon exhaust newly developed by SC-Project. DC-Project develops all Aprilia racing exhausts. A Sprint air filter, which is used in MotoGP and Formula 1, is provided to allow the engine to breathe better.
Optionally, a titanium muffler can be fitted, which is derived directly from the unit used in MotoGP. To keep a cool head during intensive track use, Taleo Tecnoracing Superbike radiators have been used for water and oil.
The performance of the XTrenta is controlled by a specially calibrated Magneti Marelli unit, while the electronic unit is controlled by a JetPrime racing panel. Of course, the RSV4 XTrenta is packed with many very nice accessories, such as footrests, steering levers and a fuel cap from Spider.
As for the bicycle part, the Öhlins suspension has been refined by specialist Andreani in collaboration with the Aprilia MotoGP engineers. The milled solid aluminum triple clamp is made exclusively for Aprilia Racing. The brakes are also top notch, with GP4-MS monobloc calipers at the front and 330mm T-drive brake discs.
The forged magnesium wheels are Marchesini M7R GENIS, fitted with Pirelli Diablo SBK slicks in sizes 120/70-17 at the front and 200/65-17 at the rear, with SC-1 compound at the front and SCX compound at the rear. On the wheels alone, 2 kilos of weight has been saved.
Similar to the colors used by test driver Lorenzo Savadori on the Red Bull Ring, the livery of the new Aprilia RSV4 XTrenta is derived from the livery of the 125cc racer with which Aprilia won the first of 54 world titles in the 1992 road race Grand Prix.
The RSV4 XTrenta is produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces, for the price of € 50,000 excluding VAT. Bookings can be made on the Aprilia website from September 6.
