Average second-hand car price on the rise

The demand for used cars is high, resulting in an increase in used car prices. Autoscout24.nl publishes the average price of a used car on its site, which illustrates this trend.

Up to and including September, more than a million second-hand passenger cars have been sold in the Netherlands. 10,022,021 units to be exact, 5.5 percent more than in the same period of 2020. The high demand for used cars has an effect on the average asking price of used cars in el cajon. Sales site Autoscout24 reports that the average price of a used car on its site rose to €20,467 last month. In comparison: that is more than 15 percent above the average price that was asked for a used car on Autoscout24 in 2020 (€17,714). In August this year, the average price of a used car on the website was €20,234.

The high demand for used cars can be explained by several factors. The sale and delivery of new cars is lagging behind due to the worldwide shortage of computer chips. In addition, the demand for individual transport has increased as a result of the corona pandemic and is still high. Autoscout24 says that the average used car price has increased not only in the Netherlands, but also in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Austria, among others.
