iPhone tips: make your iPhone faster

1. Update software

Every new iOS update makes your iPhone safer again, because a number of safety leaks are almost always closed. But in addition to extra safety, these software updates also ensure that your iPhone becomes faster. That is because there are almost always performance improvements. After all, the software is further developed and therefore works more and more efficiently. In many cases it is also good for the battery life.

If you do not know if a new iOS update is available, you can easily check it yourself. You do it like this:

  • Open the app settings;
  • Tap ‘general’;
  • Tap ‘software update’.

Also make sure that you have enabled the ‘automatic updates’ option, then you minimize the risk that you will miss updates in the future.

2. Disable background processes

On your iPhone, all kinds of processes are performed in the background without you realizing it. Some of them are handy, but others only ensure that your iPhone becomes slower and the battery life shorter. It is therefore not a bad idea to eliminate some. There are a few things you can do.

  • Switch off ‘refresh in the background’: Standard have the most apps permission to be refreshed when there is an internet connection. Depending on how many apps you have installed, this can make your iPhone quite slow and also shorten the battery life. You can switch off the entire function, or determine whether changing in the background is permitted per app. To do this, go to ‘Settings> General> Refrigerates in the background’.

  • Switch off ‘location facilities’: your iPhone also becomes slower because many apps constantly use your location. If you are navigating with Google Maps, it makes sense that that app uses your location. Many other apps certainly do not need them constantly. Switch off location facilities for those apps. To do this, go to ‘Settings> Privacy and Security> Location facilities’. Here too you can (temporarily) switch off the entire function, or determine by app whether it will have access to your location or not.

3. Free storage space

If the storage space on your iPhone becomes full, then that certainly has no positive effect on the speed. So make sure you have enough storage space available. This is possible, for example, by removing apps that you do not use. You can tackle that in different ways. You can see which apps take the most space and then choose which of those apps you no longer need. To do this, go to Settings> General> iPhone storage.

You can also set that apps that you have not used for a long time are automatically ‘tidy’. In addition, the corresponding documents and data are not lost, but it does give you space. You set this function as follows:

  • Open the app settings;
  • Tap ‘Apps’ downstairs and then on ‘App Store’;
  • Scroll down and switch on ‘plenty of apps’.

In addition, photos and videos quickly take up a lot of storage space. It is then a good idea to use iCloud photos. All photos you take are not stored on your iPhone, but in your iCloud. You can then just open them as you are used to, provided you are connected to the internet. That is also possible on other Apple devices if you have them. You can switch on:

  • Open the app settings;
  • Tap your name and then on ‘iCloud’;
  • Tap ‘photos’ and switch ‘synchronize this iPhone’;
  • Make sure there is a check mark behind ‘optimize iPhone storage’.
