If you write a text that contains amounts, you need the euro sign (€). For example in Excel, Word or online. This character is only hidden on the keyboard. Read below how to put it in the text.
Euro sign on keyboard (Windows)
How you type the euro sign varies by keyboard. There are several ways:
- On the keyboard, press the Alt key, Ctrl key and the 5 key at the same time.
- On the keyboard, press the key that reads ‘AltGr’ and the 5 key at the same time.
- On the keyboard, press the left Alt key and right press the ‘0’, ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘8’ keys at the same time.

How you type the euro sign varies by keyboard. There are two ways:
- On the keyboard, press the Alt key and 2 key at the same time.
- On the keyboard, press the key that says ‘Option’ and the 2 key at the same time.

Typing Euro sign in Word
Awkward to type the euro sign? In Word you can also insert it in another way. Do this like this:
- Open a document in Word.
- Click in the document where you want the euro sign to be.
- Click on the tab Insert.
- Right click Symbol or Symbols > Symbol.
- Multiple characters appear on the screen. Click on the euro sign. Don’t see this? Then click on More symbols, click on the euro sign and then on Insert.
The euro sign is now in the text.
Euro sign in Excel
Put a euro sign in front of all numbers like this:
- Open the Excel file.
- Select the cells where a euro sign should be placed in front of the numbers.
- Click on the tab Start.
- In the ‘Number’ group, click the icon of a money bill with coins.
- click on Euro.
The euro sign is now in the text.
Euro sign on iPhone and iPad
Easily add a euro sign to the text on iPhone and iPad.
- At the bottom left of the keyboard, tap the key with (among other things) the numbers ‘123’.
- Tap the euro sign.
Euro sign on Android device
On an Android device, type a euro sign as follows:
