Google Docs shows itself by default in a light theme. But if you’re a fan of dark mode, there are some easy ways to enable the dark side of Docs on desktop and mobile devices. This is how you will find the dark mode of Docs.
We show this in Google Docs, but the steps are the same for Google Sheets and Google Slides. Google Docs doesn’t offer a built-in dark mode on a computer, but it does in the mobile versions. Do you work on the desktop in Google Chromethen you can set the browser in dark mode anyway by means of a so-called Chrome flag, which is an experimental function of Chrome.
Flags or flags are often added as a standard function with a next update. To install the flag, type chrome://flags in the address box. Then you search Auto Dark Mode for Web Content†You choose Enabled and you click the button to restart Chrome. If you later want to disable the flag, choose instead of Enabled the option Disabledâ€
Instead of waiting for all websites to support dark mode, this flag will force dark mode on all web pages. Because this is a forced solution, the result will not be as nice as with websites that offer dark themes themselves.
Mobile
The Google Docs app on Android and iOS lets you quickly switch between the light and dark theme. Maybe you have already enabled dark mode in the system, then this is the default view. However, if you only want to see dark mode in Google Docs, do the following.
In Google Docs, tap the three-line icon in the top left corner. Through Settings open you Theme and you have the choice between light†Dark and System Default†If you Dark select it, all documents in Google Docs will open in dark mode from then on.
Certain documents
In that setting it is still possible to view certain documents in the light theme. Open the document and tap the menu icon in the top right corner again, which is the three dots. Then activate the option View in light theme†If you close this document and then reopen it, you will see it in the light view.
