MacBook Pro 2021 may have a notch (and this is what it looks like)

Tonight Apple will present the new MacBook Pro 2021. Just before the unveiling, a striking rumor is circulating. The MacBook Pro 2021 would be equipped with a notch at the top of the screen, just like the iPhone.

MacBook Pro 2021 may have a notch

The rumor is being spread on the Chinese platform, among other things Weibo, where someone states that the renewed MacBook Pro will get a notch. It would be about the same size as the iPhone 12. A Reddit user says he spoke to sources in the supply chain and claims the same.

According to the Reddit user – who has no track record as an Apple fine – the notch houses a 1080p webcam, True Tone sensor and microphone. The notch would allow Apple to make the edge at the top of the screen much narrower, although it remains slightly wider than at the sides.

More clues

These are wild rumors, but there are more indications that the MacBook Pro 2021 has a notch. MacRumors previously discovered that the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro have a resolution of 3456 by 2234 and 3024 by 1964 pixels. What is striking about this is that the image is 74 pixels too high for 16:10, the aspect ratio that is currently used with the MacBooks. This is an indication that there is more screen space on either side of the notch.

And there’s another hint, because a few months ago, a ransomware group claimed to have access to Apple’s internal information. They shared a sketch showing a MacBook with a notch.

MacBook Pro 2021 concept

Demonstrates what the latest MacBook Pro might look like 9to5Mac in a draft. In concept, the MacBook Pro has a notch, which makes the bezels around the screen much narrower. We also see that the MacBook Pro has a new design with flat sides – which is also in line with previous rumors.
