GR over
The design of the new Toyota Prius is generally quite popular and with that the model breaks quite a bit with its immediate predecessor. But there may soon be another area in which the new Toyota Prius will soon distinguish itself from all its predecessors. There is talk of the arrival of a sporty GRMN version. Indeed, GRMN. That means that it becomes even more intense than what a GR model normally has to offer!
The new Toyota Prius differs considerably from its predecessor in a number of areas. Where the exterior of the previous generation Prius was overloaded with voluptuous lines and busy folds, you will not find a line too much in the design of the new Toyota Prius. Once again, the Toyota Prius is available as a Plug-in Hybrid and as a regular hybrid, although the latter is not coming to the Netherlands this time. Unlike the previous generation Prius, both engine versions are now packaged in the same way. No more different nose and buttocks for the plug version. Also interesting: the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is by far the strongest Prius ever. With a system power of 223 hp, it is almost twice as powerful as its 122 hp predecessor. That apparently tastes like more! According to the Japanese Bestcar, Toyota is working on a fantastic Prius GRMN!
The Japanese medium says it has indications that Toyota has a Prius GRMN in the barrel. Indeed: GRMN and not GR. You probably remember the GRMN label from the Yaris GRMN, the top version of the previous generation Yaris that was created before the GR label existed that Toyota now uses for the GR Yaris and for the GR Corolla not available in Europe . The GRMN label still exists and is currently used in Japan for a limited edition extra hard and 20 kilos lighter version of the hefty GR Yaris. That promises a lot for the Toyota Prius GRMN, if it actually comes.
The Toyota Prius GRMN would get a plug-in hybrid powertrain and should of course be more potent than the regular Prius Plug-in Hybrid, but whether Toyota can squeeze more than 148 hp from the naturally aspirated 2.0 remains to be seen. Furthermore, the Prius GRMN would get a reinforced chassis, modified suspension and extra powerful brakes. According to Bestcar, the arrival of the Prius GRMN is planned for late 2023 or early 2024.
