The chat app Telegram can now translate messages for you. This is especially useful if you are in foreign channels or groups, and messages are not always clear to you. Androidworld explains how to enable the translation option in Telegram, and how to use it to translate messages.
Turn on Telegram translation
The translation option in Telegram can be found in the settings of the app. There you can switch the function on and off, which you do as follows:
- Open Telegram and open Settings via the side menu with the three lines
- Tap on Language
- Activate translation via the Show Translate Button
Directly below the Show Translate Button there is the option to exclude your native language or another language that you speak fluently. Dutch is also included and you can select multiple languages. Now that everything is set up, a message will be translated by default to the language you have set for the app.

Translate messages in Telegram
As soon as you have turned on the translation function, you can start translating messages. That works very simply. Tap on a message you want to translate, and choose from the menu for Translate. A pop-up screen will then appear in which the automatically translated text can be seen. Tap on Close when you’re done and want to continue reading or translating messages.
Telegram has more options for translating a message for its iOS app. For example, you can copy the translated text with a single click and even manually change the language from the same window. Unfortunately, such an option is not yet in the Android app, although you can manually select and copy the translated message.
