Apple iPhone 16 vs Oppo Reno 13: a rival or just a copy?

The Oppo Reno 13 comes to the Netherlands and looks a bit like an iPhone 16 – time to put the devices next to each other.

iPhone 16 vs Oppo Reno 13

The Oppo Reno 13 has been for sale in China since November 2024, but is now coming for the first time To the Netherlands and Belgium. It seems that Oppo has looked closely at the iPhone 16, at least at its appearance. We look to what extent the devices differ from each other.

Housing and screen

To begin with, the Oppo Reno 13 is slightly larger and slightly heavier than the iPhone 16: 157.9 x 74.7 x 7.2 mm and 181 g compared to 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8 mm and 170 g. The Oppo therefore has a slightly larger screen (6.59 inch) than the iPhone (6.1 inch) and also a higher resolution (1256 x 2760 pixels compared to 1179 x 2556 pixels). The screen of the iPhone 16 does have a higher maximum brightness (2000 Nits) than the screen of the Oppo Reno 13 (1200 Nits), which you probably notice when reading in direct sunlight.

Processor

The Oppo Reno 13 runs on an Octacore processor (1x 3.35 GHz, 3x 3.2 GHz and 4x 2.2 GHz) and the iPhone 16 on a hexacore processor (2x 4.04 GHz + 4x 2.20 GHz). So the Oppo has a processor with more cores, the iPhone has two cores that are a lot faster. In addition, the hardware and software are better coordinated with the iPhone, which means that performance and energy efficiency are higher.

Working memory and storage space

With the iPhone 16 you get 8 GB of memory as standard, which is needed to support Apple Intelligence. At the Oppo Reno 13 you can choose from 8, 12 and 16 GB. Here too, an iPhone is able to get more out of a certain amount of memory as standard than a smartphone from another brand. But 16 GB is a lot.

In terms of storage space, the Oppo also has a little more to offer, namely 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. For 1 TB you have to move to the Pro models at Apple. You also have the other options with the iPhone 16.

Cameras

The Oppo Reno 13 has a main camera of 50 MP with a diaphragm of f/1.8 and an ultrag wood angle camera of 8 MP and an aperture of f/2.2. The iPhone 16 also has two cameras. A main camera of 48 MP and a diaphragm of f/1.6 and an ultrag -wide angle camera of 12 MP and an aperture of f/2.2. The main camera is the most important. Here the iPhone has 2 megapixels less, but it does have a larger aperture, so that more light arrives. This mainly helps when you take photos in poor lighting conditions.

The selfie camera of the iPhone also has a slightly larger aperture (f/1.9) than that of the Oppo (f/2.0). However, the Oppo has many more megapixels: 50 compared to 12 on the iPhone. So for better selfies you have to go to Oppo.

Duration

With a capacity of 5600 mAh, the Oppo Reno 13 clearly has the most powerful battery. That is an advantage of a larger phone. The iPhone 16 has one of 3561 MAH. Yet this is no guarantee that the battery life of the Oppo is longer. As with the working memory, Apple always knows how to get more out of a battery, partly due to an energy -efficient processor.

Charging the Oppo does faster, because that goes with a maximum of 80 W. wired, because wireless charging is not possible with the Reno 13.

conclusion

Conclusion: iPhone 16 vs Oppo Reno 13

Despite a slightly higher resolution, more memory, a selfie camera with more megapixels, a more powerful battery and the option for more storage space, the iPhone scores better on most points in practice. If you make a lot of selfies, you probably choose the Oppo and if you need 1 TB of storage space may also.

A point that we have not yet appointed is the price. At that point the Oppo Reno 13 stands head and shoulders above the iPhone 16. The Oppo Reno 13 costs 549 euros and for the iPhone 16 you currently still have € 789 pay off.
