iOS 18.4 reveals your history in Safari (and that cannot be turned off)

In the first test version of iOS 18.4, Apple has implemented a change, with which history in Safari is immediately visible. You need to know this.

iOS 18.4

Apple has released the first test version of iOS 18.4 for developers, making it clear which functions come to your iPhone. With iOS 18.4, Apple Intelligence is coming to a number of European countries for the first time, but the Netherlands and Belgium are unfortunately not included. As a result, iOS 18.4 beta 1 here is a much smaller update, with which Apple mainly makes improvements on your iPhone.

This makes it easier to edit albums in the photos app and the password app gets a handy function. In addition, it is possible to adjust that the translation and card app are used as standard for translating and navigating on your iPhone. Developers have now discovered a change, because in iOS 18.4 your history in Safari is standard visible if you open a new tab.

History in Safari

Do you now open a new tab in Safari? Then only a search bar appears at the bottom or at the top of the screen. That will change from iOS 18.4, because the screen is then immediately filled with your recent searches. As soon as you tap the search bar, the terms on which you recently searched appear. In this way with one tap on the screen, your history in Safari will be unveiled from iOS 18.4.

This of course doesn’t have to be a problem, but in some cases you prefer to keep the search results private. It is striking that this is no longer possible from iOS 18.4, because the history of Safari then appears automatically on your screen. There is no way to eliminate this function, not even with the settings of your iPhone. You can delete your recent searches, that happens with the blue button above the search results.

Release of iOS 18.4

Incidentally, no recent search results are shown in Safari in private mode, because they are never stored. It is only a first test version of iOS 18.4, which means that there is a good chance that it is possible in a new beta to hide history in Safari. It is expected that Apple will add a switch to permanently disable showing the recent searches.

Apple has already announced that the official release of iOS 18.4 is only in April. Several test versions will be available for developers before that time. In one of those betas of iOS 18.4, Apple probably comes with a way to hide the history of Safari again. Do you want to know when the final update will be available for everyone?
