4 reasons to install the new Google News

Google has changed its Newsstand into Google News and tries to provide you with the best messages via artificial intelligence. Does that work? Read on to see if installing Google News is worth it.

Install Google News on iOS

Google News is now available on the App Store. Announced at Google’s annual I / O event, the new app uses artificial intelligence to deliver news. Google uses artificial intelligence to put multiple sources together for the ‘whole story’.

4 reasons to install the new Google News

The app is not yet as complete on iOS as it is on Android. For example, magazines are currently missing and the weather is not shown. It is also painfully noticeable that the text in one of the four tabs is not properly aligned, so that the app now looks a bit sloppy. Still, there are several reasons to give Google News a chance.

1. News tailored to your interests

Google News is an app that tailors the news to your interests. That is why you must first log in with your Google account before you can read news items. The app has two different tabs for the current news. At ‘For you’ the five most popular articles are first shown and then the tab changes to news that matches your interests.

In the tab ‘News headlines’ you will find the most important news about specific themes such as ‘The Netherlands’, ‘Sports’ and ‘Science and technology’. In the Android version of the app, this tab is also called ‘Top news’, so this may be adjusted in a later update.

2. You adapt your own interests

You can adjust your interests yourself if you wish. To do this, go to the ‘Favorites’ tab. Not only are your favorite stories and searches stored there, but you can also indicate which topics and sources you find interesting. Google will then present you with news that is relevant to your interests.

3. Uses artificial intelligence throughout the story

Some stories have a button with a blue square and a red / yellow line. If you tap this, you will be presented with the ‘whole story’. This means that Google’s artificial intelligence searches multiple sources together to find different perspectives. Tweets and videos are also placed here for extra context.

It is now clear that artificial intelligence will play a major role in the news provision of the future and Google has the best papers when it comes to smartphones and AI. That’s why Google News is the app to keep an eye on right now.

4. No Apple News in the Netherlands

Google is also launching the app with little competition on iOS. Apple News is still not released in the Netherlands, while Google News is directly available in numerous countries.
