1. Add frequently used features to the Control Center

Since iOS 18, Control Center has become more customizable than ever. You can choose from a large number of functions and place them wherever you want. You can also add elements for supported third-party apps.

Once you put the controls you want in place, they become quickly accessible with a swipe and tap. This way you can perform frequently used functions much faster. To add a new control, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open Control Center. Long press the screen and tap ‘Add a controller’ at the bottom of the screen.

2. Use the apps shortcut menu

Long-pressing an app icon brings up a quick menu of actions you can use to quickly perform specific tasks. For example, to see what you did a year ago, press and hold the Photos app icon and tap “A Year Ago.” You will then immediately see photos from the same date last year.

To take a quick selfie, long-press the Camera app icon and tap Selfie. The front camera will then open immediately. Not all apps have such a shortcut menu, but it’s worth learning which ones do. That can save you quite a bit of time.

3. Take advantage of widgets

Widgets can also save you time. Adding widgets to your home screen lets you see information at a glance and even work with apps without having to open them.

For example, you can place an agenda widget on your home screen, so that you can immediately see what is on the agenda today. And with just one swipe you can see what’s coming tomorrow. If you have multiple Apple products, we recommend the battery widget. This allows you to see at a glance the status of the battery of all those devices.

4. Use the Text Replacement option

We all spend a lot of time entering our details on websites when we register or provide our payment or address details. If you’re tired of typing your name and address, you can create text replacements that automatically enter the correct text.

For example, you can set it so that when you type ‘@@’ it is replaced by your email address. Or you only have to enter your initials for your first and last name. That will quickly save you a lot of typing. You set it up as follows:

  • Open the Settings app;
  • Tap ‘General’ and then ‘Keyboard’;
  • Now choose ‘Text Replacement’;
  • Tap the plus sign at the top right and enter a sentence and keyword.

From now on, all you have to do is type the text replacement and press the space bar. The full text will then appear automatically.

5. Use Spotlight

Searching Spotlight on your iPhone can be incredibly useful and save time. The function can do much more than just search. To open an app, just start typing its name and tap the result that appears. Your most used apps appear before you start typing.

However, you can do a lot more with Spotlight. Do you want to convert dollars to euros? Simply type a dollar amount into Spotlight and you will immediately see the amount converted to euros appear. This of course also works with other currencies.

You open Spotlight by swiping down on your home screen.
